The Mukilteo Water and Wastewater District’s (District) Contractor, Shoreline Construction, Inc. is scheduled to begin construction on the 2022 Water System Improvements Project on Monday, March 21st. This project will replace approximately 2,800 lineal feet of 6-inch cast iron water main with 8-inch and 12-inch restraint joint ductile iron water main. The project is located in several locations on the west side of SR 525/Mukilteo Speedway between 3rd Street and the south end of Webster Street. Streets where work will take place include 3rd Street, Washington Ave, 4th Street, Church Ave, 8th Street, and Webster Street. See attached map for the Project Areas. Adjacent streets may be used for equipment and material staging. We anticipate the Construction to take approximately four months and is weather dependent.
The construction operations for this project will impact traffic in/along the streets named above and the general area surrounding them. The new pipe is to be installed in the existing pavement. Once completed, the entire surface of the impacted traffic lane and the adjacent lane (full street width) will be re-paved. The Contractor will do the best they can to provide local access during construction. Residents will continue to have uninterrupted water service during the project with the exception of an approximate 20-minute interruption towards the end of the project to switch the water services over to the new main.
Some traffic lanes will be temporarily closed during construction with flaggers helping to direct traffic around the work zones. There will be some temporary/short term loss of on-street parking as equipment is utilized and the pipes are installed along the streets.
